His fiction has been named a Distinguished Story in Best American Short Stories 2005 and received a special mention in Pushcart Prize 2006, 2008 and 2010. His story collection, The Women Were Leaving the Men, won the 2008 Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award for fiction.
